This is the beginning of my blog. It’s the day before Christmas Eve, and I am pondering all the new IT projects awaiting me in 2009.
For lack of a better title, I am the chief systems integrator for a New England town. That is not my official title, but it makes the most sense.
Systems Integration is a title we dreaded when it was explained to us twenty-one years ago at Digital Equipment Corporation (“DEC”). The managers explaining it made one of its selling points that we engineers would not have to spend as long in software quality assurance. Clearly they did not understand the negative impact of this selling point.
Now many years older and hopefully wiser, no other category describes my job as well. It involves programming, database and system administration, data conversion across applications and even some system building.
Happy Holidays to all.
