A few years ago, I needed to write a C TCP/IP socket function that could be tested from a C main and also co-exist with the Informix 4GL library calls, so the function could be called from 4GL. Unlike the days I was at DEC and FTP Software, you don’t see a lot of books or articles on the subject.
As I recall, I did not see this article
but instead got what I needed to write a Linux version from Advanced Linux Programming.
Now, this is all done for us in languages like Python, Ruby, Clojure, and Java. But it wasn’t once.
